Molly Keane Creative Writing Award 2012 – Winner announced
Waterford County Council’s Arts Office is pleased to announce that the winner of the Molly Keane Creative Writing Award 2012 is Dublin native Patricia Foran with a short story titled ‘The Tin Bath’.
Having taught Maths for more than twenty years, Patricia is now nurturing her long-neglected childhood love of writing stories. In 2011 she attended a Creative Writing course in her local Community School, led by poet and writer Eileen Casey. Earlier this year, she took the Short Story and Beyond writing course in UCD, taught by Susan Knight, a previous winner of the Molly Keane Award in 2008. Patricia credits both teachers with giving her the confidence to believe that others outside of her family might read her stories. Since September 2011 she has built up a small collection and continues to write and looks forward to her literary future.
‘The Tin Bath’ is the fifteenth winner of the Molly Keane Creative Writing Award run by Waterford County Council’s Arts Office with support from the Arts Council and by kind permission of the Keane family. The winner was welcomed to the presentation ceremony at the IMMRAMA Festival, by Lismore Mayor Ken Madden and presented with prize money of €500 and a scroll commemorative by County Mayor Liam Brazil.
Mayors Liam Brazil and Ken Madden congratulate Patricia Foran winner of the Molly Keane Creative Writing Award 2012 with her husband David.
